Country: Australia

What infection type does your test focus on? Urinary Tract Infection, Bloodstream Infection, Sepsis

What does your test detect? Pathogen(s), Host Response, Antibiotic Susceptibility Pattern

The mission of this scientific collaboration is to develop a rapid, point-of-care, diagnostic device that can assist in managing the antibiotic resistance crisis . The device will help clinicians to prescribe narrow-spectrum agents and defining antibiotics susceptibility. In our multidisciplinary team, scientists from different field of knowledge including from microbiology, Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, chemical engineering, Machine learning,  and microbial metabolomics are working closely together to develop a point-of-care sensor platform for infection diagnostics and providing Antibiotic susceptibility profile. The sensor platform patented by our team is able to monitor the bacterial growth and define dead and live bacteria based on the metabolites released to the growth media. Our label-free sensor platform has  potential to apply directly to the liquid sample and can detect small molecules known as volatile and Non-volatile organic compounds.
