What we have to offer: We are an inclusive group with a field-led, global health development perspective and a firm grasp on the spread of antimicrobial resistance. We aim to develop PART-ICLE; a small personal antimicrobial resistance test. We will consolidate recently discovered rapid methods for detecting antimicrobial resistance, convert these into a series of standard procedures applicable to a wide range of multi-resistant bacteria, and develop methods that operate on simple, hand-held devices suitable for a range of field applications including point-of-care use. Noting the Millennium Development Goals, the Encompass group recognises the value of combined north-south and south-south cooperation in global health technology development and has mapped out a technology transfer pipeline that spans applied systems biology, an international network of research, public health and clinical microbiology labs and global antimicrobial resistance hotspots.
An accurate, ultrafast MIC method based on bacterial analysis by flow cytometer is under development.
