Sysmex Astrego AB is an in vitro diagnostic company based in Uppsala, Sweden.

It has developed a rapid urinary tract infection (UTI) test for pathogen detection and antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) based on single cell microscopy in a nanofluidic chip. The PA-100 System detects the presence of bacteria causing UTI within 15 minutes and produces an AST result for 90% of the pathogens involved in UTIs within 30 minutes.

“Our vision is to change how antibiotics are used today, and avoid misuse of antibiotics. We want to bring the diagnosis closer to the patient which would enable prescription of the correct antibiotic at the first doctor visit.” –  Professor Johan Elf, Professor at Uppsala University.

Sysmex Astrego’s test is rapid, inexpensive and easy to use.

“You need a rapid diagnostic at the point of care to make a difference” – Özden Baltekin, Director of Programme Management

The multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and diagnostic industry entrepreneurs plan to launch the technology to the global market.

Speakers in this video from the Sysmex Astrego AB team:

Mikael Olsson, CTO and Co-founder of Astrego Diagnostics

Özden Baltekin, Director of Programme Management, Sysmex Astrego

Professor Johan Elf, Uppsala University
